Ludacris’ Pool House Burned Down In Blaze

A fire broke out at the estate of Ludacris’ late Wednesday night destroying a pool house, but leaving no damage to the rapper’s home.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the blaze was put out within 30 minutes after firemen arrived onto the scene.

The Def Jam star was out of town at the time, however a family member was in the main home. A spokesman for the Fulton County Fire Department in Atlanta explained the pool house was larger than most homes, which took a “significant fire” to bring the structure down. Luckily a nearby resident spotted the fire and notified emergency authorities. No immediate cause for the fire was given as of press time.

Tony Yayo Builds With Flavor Flav, Calls Self "Energy God"

When it comes to hypemen, Tony Yayo calls himself an "Energy God." After an encounter with iconic hypeman Flavor Flav, he shared the advice given to him, and spoke on more regarding the 50 Cent/Kanye West feud.
"Both energies together," Tony Yayo told MTV. "It was a while back when we was beefing with Fat Joe, and he said I was the '2008 version of Flavor Flav.' I took it good. Me and Flav kicked it backstage, and the two things he said to me: 'Stay alive and stay out of jail.' "

This weekend, The Unit welcomed Flav as their special guest at a show in New York. Tony added that he has respect and admiration for what Flav has done.

"The energy onstage when I said 'Flaaaaavor Flaaaaaaaaav!' — the crowd went crazy. Me and him got the same kinda energy. I look up to a lot of the old-school rappers: Flavor, Chuck D, Whodini. I seen that rap from the '80s to '90s to now. Flavor Flav, for you to get out of jail and be in one of the biggest rap groups in the country, come off Rikers Island, create your own hustle, create your own show, then have the number-one show in the country. When I came out, I was on easy street. 50 took care of me."

The two even got to speak on life, meet families and more.
"We was backstage, I got to meet a lot of his kids, five of his kids. I talked to his baby mother. He got to meet 50 and [Lloyd] Banks. I'm a big fan of Flavor. His energy when he gets onstage, his is 10 times what mine is. He's entertaining. That's what people want. That's what I try to do — entertain people on the stage. When I see a boring show, I get bored. That's why I looked up to people like Flav and Doug E. Fresh. I asked Doug the secrets of shows. I ran into him at the airport. He said, 'Before a show, I don't eat, don't drink and get a lot of rest.' I listened to that. Then Flavor, when he came out on that stage and we did 'So Seductive,' I did his dance. Right now, he's happy I made the dance popular. We talked yesterday."
During the show, 50 made some headlines by making his own remix of Kanye West's "Love Lockdown." Yayo admitted that it wasn't a serious beef, but that the crew would not back down from another release date show down in December when Kanye and 50 drop albums around the same time.

Unafraid of showing bias, Yayo noted that 50 was always the winner in his eyes.

Run-DMC Nominated For Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

To be eligible for induction into Cleveland, Ohio's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, one must have released their first single no later than 25 years ago. Along with guitarist Jeff Beck (already inducted with some group-work), Metallica, Disco group Chic, '70s Funk outfit War, The Stooges, Soul icon Bobby Womack and Lil Anthony & The Imperials, Hollis, Queens' Hip Hop pioneers Run-DMC are now eligible nominees.
The trio of Reverend Run, DMC and the late deejay Jam Master Jay released their self-titled debut in 1984, after releasing single "Sucker MC's" the year prior. In total, the group released seven studio albums, and was instrumental in implementing Rock samples into their music. Collaborating with Aerosmith to remix their 1979 hit "Walk This Way," the group is credited with reinventing the Boston Rock legends, inducted to The Hall of Fame.

The 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction program will include a weeklong series of events culminating with the Induction Ceremony on Saturday, April 4 at historic Public Hall in Cleveland. Advance ticket sales for the events will be made available to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum members and then to the public.

Blender Calls Tupac The Most "Overrated" Artist Ever

Deceased Hip Hop icon Tupac Shakur has been named the most overrated person in music by music magazine Blender, according to Reuters.
Pac lands at the top of a list which includes "places, trends and other junk in rock," said Blender in its upcoming October issue, which hits newsstands next week.
Other overrated finalists on the list include the Grammy Awards at number seven, encores at number 12, Pink Floyd at number 14 and "the music you loved as a teenager" at number 23.
Tupac gained a cult-like following after his unsolved, premature death at the hands of a shooter in Las Vegas in 1996. Since then, he's released more than a dozen albums. Adding to his mythical status, many conspiracy theories surrounding the death of the rapper arose, some asserting that Tupac is still, in fact, alive.
According to Blender, Tupac was a decent rapper with "insane rock-star charisma," though he also "larded records with self-mythologizing, mediocre filler."

Large Professor Reacts To Illmatic Being Turned To Book

Hip Hop scholar, author and activist Dr. Michael Eric Dyson announced yesterday that he is currently writing a book on Nas' debut album Illmatic [click to read]. The 1994 release received the coveted five mic rating from The Source magazine, and is considered by many, to be the greatest single Hip Hop album of all times.
"Every song on Illmatic will be analyzed, interpreted and then re-articulated in a kind of intellectual sense from his own base in Hip Hop and we’re trying to deal with that seriously," Dyson told AllHipHop.com Wednesday.
Late Wednesday, Nas' mentor, and producer of three of the album's 10 tracks, Large Professor, spoke on the significance of his work going from the musical to the literary world.
"It means a lot. That’s what we were working for though," revealed the musical creator of "Halftime," "One Time 4 Your Mind" and "It Ain't Hard To Tell," two of which were album singles. Large Professor added to HipHopDX, "It’s finally paying off. It was a lot of hard work put into getting that album how it was – even getting Nas to that point. It’s finally payin’ off. Sometimes it’s a delayed reaction with things. Back in the days, my father would tell me, ‘You’re ahead of your time.’ I didn’t know what that meant. Sometimes that’s a good thing and a bad thing. You get a grasp on it, and you understand what it is, and you realize it."
From first appearing on 1991's "Live At The Barbeque" [click to read] from Large Professor's then-group Main Source, the unit spent nearly three years readying the debut, which finally achieved platinum status a decade later in 2004. "That was a lot of power, a lot of energy that went into that. That wasn’t just [a year-long project], that was years in the making. The power is there. It’s still alive.”
According to Amazon, Dyson's book, formerly titled Born To Use Mics: Reading Nas' Illmatic, is planned for January 2009 publication on Basic Civitas Books.
